Lonnie Holley, outsider artist, was born February 10, 1950, the seventh of 27 children in Birmingham, Alabama. He is known for his primitive sculptural assemblages and crudely painted creations. He was moved around from foster home to foster home until he ran away to Louisiana when he was 14. He drifted around the South working as a short-order cook in Louisiana, Florida and Alabama. Eventually Holley settled in Birmingham where he lives today with five of his fifteen children.
